Where Historic Charm Meets Modern Wellness
Past & Present
From textile mill to wellness haven—discover the journey of the Chatham Mills Studio.
Mill Origins
The Chatham Mill Plaza originated as a Textile Mill back in the 1920's. It was once considered the largest Silk label in the world. At one point, the Chatham Mill was the world's largest producer of woven labels and a major industry in Pittsboro. The mill manufactured millions of tags for prominent clothing companies and other goods like mattresses and parachutes.
Joy of Movement
The Chatham Mills Studio was first established in 2010 operating as the Joy of Movement studio. The Joy of Movement housed several local teachers and offered classes in Nia instruction, various types of yoga, meditation, dance, and music classes.
Although the Joy of Movement has since closed, many of the knowledgeable and talented teachers still instruct in what is known as the Chatham Mills Studio today.
The Chatham Mills Studio continues to be the hub for top health, wellness, and workshop classes in the Pittsboro, NC area.
Community & Wellness Today
Today, the Chatham Mills houses a variety of businesses and community spaces.
The historic background of the Mill is a wonderful sanctuary to appease all your senses. From gathering locally grown goods at the Chatham Marketplace, enjoying a health and wellness class at the studio, meeting friends for dinner at Sycamore, to celebrating life's most special moments at Forest Hall with 39 West Catering. There is something for everyone!
In essence, the Chatham Mills transitioned from a prominent textile manufacturing company to a vibrant mixed-use center, retaining its historical charm while adapting to the evolving needs of the Pittsboro community.
